TxDOT US 83 Widening, Laredo, TX

Water Resources | Drainage

Role: Prime

AZ&B developed the construction documents for the US 83 Super 2 Widening project. The project consisted of two CSJs totaling over 20 miles in length. Work included road widening, updating alignments, extending 29 cross drainage structures (culverts and bridge-class), new ditch construction, and traffic/signal improvements. New channels in areas of known drainage issues were lined with concrete riprap to protect the channels from erosion and sedimentation due to higher velocities from upstream development. There were six FEMA Zone ‘A’ crossings for the project. AZ&B developed HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS models for the existing and proposed culvert conditions to ensure no rise in the 100-year WSEL at each crossing.
