FM 1171 Roadway Improvements, Flower Mound & Northlake, TX

Transportation | Roadways

Role: Prime

AZ&B provided schematic, environmental, and PS&E design services for the widening and reconstruction of this 11-mile-long existing 2-lane rural roadway to a 6-lane divided urban arterial through the Town of Flower Mound and City of Northlake. AZ&B performed design surveying, environmental documentation, horizontal and vertical geometries design, hydrologic analysis, and drainage design for 20 culverts. Work also included storm drainage system, four bridges at major stream crossings, signing & striping, design of permanent and temporary traffic signals with VIVDS cameras, staged-phased traffic control plans, earthwork determination, erosion control plans including development of permanent BMPs, and preparation of the PS&E package.

During this time, TxDOT was designing three projects in the same area. To improve the traffic flow during construction, AZ&B suggested utilizing temporary traffic signals until project completion, ultimately saving TxDOT thousands of construction dollars. Consequently, this allowed the project to be completed six months ahead of schedule.
