DART USOC Streetcar South Extension, Dallas, TX

Transportation | Transit

Role: Prime

AZ&B was the lead engineering design firm for the design-build extension of the Dallas Streetcar Extension Project for the City of Dallas and DART and the Northern Extension. The Northern Extension will provide a loop along the block bounded by Young, Lamar, Wood, and Houston Streets that will serve Union Station, the Dallas Convention Center, and the Omni Convention Center Hotel. Because safe operation of the streetcar requires a careful analysis of traffic patterns and traffic flow where the streetcar shares the road with existing automobile traffic, traffic signals were modified at several intersections to assure both automobile and pedestrian safety. AZ&B provided engineering services, environmental reviews, and overall project management services, including coordination with the contractor.

This project required extensive proactive coordination with various City of Dallas Departments, DART Departments, traction power substation location developer, and Archer Western (Construction Manager at Risk). AZ&B effectively communicated each stakeholder’s wants and needs and provided balanced and cost-effective solutions that met the requirements of the project’s schedule and budget.
